PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting tool which has a simple structure, can be easily manufactured, decreases the possibility of failure, does not increase cost, and can light up the whole of the vehicle registration number of a license plate. SOLUTION: The lighting tool lighting up the license plate attached to a vehicle body comprises a base member 21 disposed on a back surface or a front surface of the license plate 11, and fixed to the vehicle body; a light guiding bar 22 manufactured in a rod shape by using transparent hard synthetic resin material, formed with a reflecting layer 22D at an outer surface half portion, attached to the base member, and projecting light from both end portions in a direction pointed by the reflecting layer to light up at least the vehicular registration number of the license plate; a light emitting element 23 attached to the both end portions of the light guiding bar so as to oppose to each other, and mutually generating light toward the other side to make the light incident from the both end portions of the light guiding bar 22; and an energizing means 24 energizing the light emitting element from an on-vehicle power source.
