PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle engine control device capable of inhibiting self-ignition of a mixture in restart and thereby protecting an engine when controlling automatic stop and automatic restart of the vehicle engine. SOLUTION: The control device, in the idling stop control (automatic stop and restart control), stops the engine when engine water temperature Tw and engine intake air temperature Tin obtained are within a predetermined range and a stop condition is met (steps S102 to S105). When a restart condition is met during the stop of the engine, the engine is restarted (steps S113, S114). The engine water temperature Tw and the engine intake air temperature Tin are obtained during the stop of the engine and when these temperatures Tw, Tin obtained are within a self-ignition occurring range R, the engine is restarted immediately without waiting for formation of the next restart condition (S111, S112 and S114).
