PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an installation space by releasing the separation of a paper feeder or the press-contact of a carrying mechanism when a recording device is not used to allow loaded paper sheets to be inserted deep into the device and reducing the projected amount of paper sheets. SOLUTION: This recording device comprises a recording part and a paper feed mechanism capable of feeding sheet materials as materials to be recorded to the recording part. When the paper feed part is not used, the amount of insertion of the materials to be recorded into the recording device can be increased more than in such a case that the paper feed part is used.
