The system has a logic controller (6) calculating fuel quantity required for attaining a proportion equal to stoichiometric proportion with respect to the nitrogen oxide quantity. The controller triggers the injection of a required quantity when the ratio between the required quantity and the nitrogen oxide quantity is less than a triggering threshold. The controller receives information about the speed of a diesel type thermal engine (1) and injection in the combustion chambers of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a propulsion method.
