Described herein is a system intended to aid people with visual weakness conditions to travel in urban zones without external assistance. The system includes the advantages of a GPS (Global Positioning System) navigation system, and a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) commonly known as palm. The user interacts with the system via voice, for both giving instructions and receiving information. The user generates Spanish spoken commands for establishing paths to selected targets, and receiving Spanish spoken instructions by means of a hands-free device using Bluetooth (wireless technology of digital communication) technology. The travel position and direction of the user is always monitored by the system, so that the user will always be aware of his/her position by knowing the name of the street and the distance at which the next corner is located. The system comprises audible alarms for indicating the proximity of corners and walking in a parallel path to streets. Risk parameters have be en incorporated to streets for facilitating the establishment of suitable paths. The user may customize the system, so that the sites of interest may be added. The inventive system includes algorithms for facilitating data processing and improving the use of the digital memory and the PDA operational characteristics.
