PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mount coil component, and its manufacturing process, in which variations in the coil characteristics can be suppressed between products while reducing the size. SOLUTION: The surface mount coil component 10 comprises a drum core 12 applied with a winding, and an outer core 14 surrounding the drum core 12 around its axis. The outer core 14 is divided into a pair of core components 15 and 16 arranged at a specified interval, i.e. a core gap 18, from the drum core 12. Since the drum core 12 and the core components 15 and 16 are bonded through an adhesive material M produced by admixing an adhesive S with substantially spherical particles G having a uniform particle size, the core gap 18 has a substantially constant interval along the circumferential direction of the flange part 12b.
