880,282. Pipe joints. LYON, G. T. Aug. 9, 1960, No. 27621/60. Class 99(1). A pipe 44, Figs. 7 and 8, screwed into a socket 30 is sealed by a resilient sleeve 52 which is deformed by a bevelled lip 28 into sealing contact with an unthreaded portion 48 of the pipe. In Figs. 7 and 8 the sleeve 52 is integral with a nut 50 screwed on to a second screwthreaded portion 46. The unthreaded part 48 has a diameter equal to the root diameter of the threads 46, 44, and the sleeve 52 is preferably swaged inwardly to a diameter less than that of the threads 44, 46, so that the nut 50 and sleeve 52 are trapped on the pipe. A packing ring may be situated beneath the sleeve 52. In a modification, Fig. 11, the sleeve 76 is separate from the nut 60 and its upper end is either flanged or engaged in a recess 74 in the nut to avoid splaying thereof. In Fig. 18 the sleeve 102 is weakened at its mid portion 90 and the upper end 104 is either flanged or engaged by a conical recess 108 in the nut 100. The inner surface of the sleeve is also convex where it engages the unthreaded portion 24 of the tube. Specification 880,283 is referred to.
|
