PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for increasing the speed of compression processing by image compression software. SOLUTION: An MEM-C17 stores data read by an engine section 60. A RAM 12b stores the data stored in the MEM-C17 via an AGP 15 in response to a request from a CPU 11. Then the CPU 11 reads the data stored in the RAM 12b and uses the image compression software in a ROM 12a to compress the data. That is, since the CPU 11 reads the data stored in the RAM 12b not via the AGP 15 unlike the conventional image forming apparatus and applies compression processing to the data, the time required for data compression processing can be shortened.
