PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce consumed electric current in a stepping motor. SOLUTION: An FDD controller 53 controls a stepping driver 54, a spindle driver 55, and a reading/writing control circuit 56. An FDD control section 70 controls the FDD controller 53 by supplying a step signal STEP for driving the stepping motor to the FDD controller 53. The FDD controller 53 sends out a disk presence discriminating signal DKO to the FDD control section 70. When the disk presence discriminating signal DKO indicates the absence of a floppy disk, the FDD control section 70 does not supply the step signal STEP to the FDD controller 53.
