PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plant type determining method for quickly, accurately and inexpensively discriminating a type of a plant sample without an advanced measuring skill, applied to rice oriented to brands and lawn grass, and user-friendly, inexpensively and reliably identifying the type. SOLUTION: The plant type determining method heats a minute piece of the plant or its component, makes lignin as its cell wall component flows out, vaporizes the lignin at a high temperature, detects the lignin, and determines the type of the plant or its component.
