PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an increase in pressure of air within a reservoir chamber and to prevent breakage of bellows of a hydraulic tensioner, without deteriorating the sealability of the bellows connected to an outer cylinder and fitted on a plunger. SOLUTION: The hydraulic tensioner is arranged such that: a cylinder 11 is located within the outer cylinder 20; the plunger 12 is axially slidably inserted in the cylinder 11; a spring 63 is provided for biasing the plunger 12 in the direction of elongation; the reservoir chamber 24 is defined between the cylinder 11 and the outer cylinder 20; and the reservoir chamber 24 is sealed by the bellows 23 connected to the outer cylinder 20 and fitted on the plunger 12. In the hydraulic tensioner, an exhaust port 25 for escaping the air within the reservoir chamber 24 the pressure of which has increased to the exterior, is provided at a part of the bellows 23.
