PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel plate having excellent toughness of welded joint (e.g., in the vicinity of a weld seam at large heat input welding, in particular). SOLUTION: The steel plate with excellent welded joint toughness is composed of steel having a composition containing, by mass, 0.02 to 0.12% C, 0.002 to 0.010% N, 0.005 to 0.025% Ti and 0.003 to 0.025% Nb. Further, a compound precipitate of Ti nitride and Nb carbonitride is dispersed in the number of≥100 pieces/mm<SP>2</SP>in the cross section of the steel plate composed of the above steel.
