PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of easily maintaining a predetermined lowering allowance distance of a counterweight against the extension of a main rope with the lapse of time. SOLUTION: An installation position of a shock absorber 4 is moved downward by energizing an actuator mechanism 5 by operating a main rope extension countermeasure control device 8 via operation of a distance detector 7 against the reduction in the predetermined lowering allowance distance of the counterweight 3 by the extension of the newly arranged main rope 2 with the lapse of time. Thus, the predetermined lowering allowance distance of the counterweight 3 is automatically re-formed without requiring artificial operation. Thus, artificial work for maintaining the predetermined lowering allowance distance of the counteweight 3 by the extension of the main rope 2 with the lapse of time, can be omitted, to reduce maintenance cost for controlling the predetermined allowance distance of the counterweight 3.
