PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which enables the definition of a suitable intensity of exercise for each person easily and inexpensively without analyzing exhaled gas or measuring blood lactate level, blood pressure and heart rate. SOLUTION: An examinee makes a phased loading exercise and his/her first amplitude of cardiac sound for each phase of the exercise which arises when the left and right atrioventricular valves are closed is recorded on a phonocardiogram through a cardiac sound microphone attached on the chest of the examinee. Thus, the suitable intensity of exercise for the examinee is defined as the intensity at a phase of the loading exercise when a change point (HSBP) where the amplitude of cardiac sound rises rapidly is recognized. The amplitude for each phase of the loading exercise is graphed with the intensity of the loading exercise on the horizontal axis and the ratio of the amplitude of the cardinal sound during the loading exercise to the cardinal sound during rest on the longitudinal axis. A linear regressive equations are created from the data of the relative light loading exercise and the relative intensive loading exercise respectively and the intersecting point of these equations is defined as the change point (HSBP).
