A method of noninvasively and quantitatively judging the degree of hair damaging, in particular, the degree of damaging caused by permanent wave treatment and/or the degree of damaging caused by oxidation. The degree of damaging of hair whose damaging degree is unknown is judged on the basis of correlation between degree of damaging and results of multivariate analysis as obtained from results of multivariate analysis with respect to near-infrared absorption spectra of two or more types of hairs whose damaging degree is known. Further, from the obtained judgment results, there is judged the history of treatment applied to the hair, or the susceptibility to damaging by treatment. Principal component analysis (PCA), SIMCA or KNN method is preferably employed as an algorithm of the above multivariate analysis. |
