PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start control device of an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing the generation of HC, NOx, and smoke when a catalyst must be warmed up. SOLUTION: When the catalyst must be warmed up, the retard angle control of the ignition timing 51 of the internal combustion engine is started. After the retard angle control is started and before a retard angle amount in the retard angle control reaches a target value, leaning of an air-fuel ratio 52 in a cylinder is started. After the retard angle amount in the retard angle control reaches the target value, the control of an injection 53 in an expansion stroke is performed. The air-fuel ratio is further leaned simultaneously at a time t3 when the control of the injection 53 in the expansion stroke is started or after that time t4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
