PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control unit inhibiting a rise of engine rotation speed at starting without breaking an engine. SOLUTION: The rotation speed n of the engine 22 is detected by a rotation speed sensor 31a, and change of the rotation speed n of the engine 22 from a start mode to a normal mode is judged from a detection value of the rotation speed sensor 31a. When the rotation speed n of the engine 22 is judged to change from the start mode to the normal mode, a differenceΔne between the detection value of the rotation speed sensor 31a and a target rotation speed n0 beforehand set is calculated and ignition timingθ1 is controlled based on the calculated value. The control of the ignition timingθis delay control that is carried out when the detection value of the rotation speed sensor 31a is larger than the target rotation speed n0.
