PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heading method capable of correctly forming a groove part of a desired shape on a shaft portion close to a head portion of a boss member only by the heading, and repeatedly obtaining a large amount of boss members in a short time. SOLUTION: In the heading method for forming a boss member 1 having a head portion 2 larger in diameter than a shaft portion 4 and a groove part 5 formed on an outer periphery of a boundary between the shaft portion 4 and the head portion 2, a secondary working stock 10 of the shape of a stepped bar consisting of the shaft portion 4 of different dimensions is subjected to the heading in the axial direction, the head portion 2 is formed by deforming a small diameter shaft portion 12 on the side of the smaller orthogonal dimension, and the groove part 5 is formed. A parts former having a plurality of multi-stage heading units is not required, and the direction of semi-products in each step need not be changed, and the working time is shortened. Since the working time is shortened, a large amount of boss members as products can be produced in a short time, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced accordingly.
