PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of a self-piercing rivet joint, which can achieve excellent joining conditions even if the thickness and the material property of plates are variously different, and is suitable for mass production. SOLUTION: The minimum value in the population in the neighborhood of the maximum pushed distance is taken as a maximum value (the upper limit of a threshold value) for judging the quality of joint conditions, and the maximum value in the population in the neighborhood of the minimum pushed distance is taken as a minimum value (the lower limit of the threshold value) for judging the quality of joint conditions. An approximated curve (1) of a weighted mean connecting the mean values of working loads for the respective pushed distances, an approximated curve (2) of the upper limit of the dispersed working loads for the respective pushed distances, and an approximated curve (3) of the lower limit of the dispersed working loads for the respective pushed distances are drawn respectively. Rivets are pushed into the plates for the setting value determined as the median of the pushed distance corresponding to the intersecting point of the approximated curve (2) of the upper limit of the working loads and the upper limit of the threshold value and the pushed distance corresponding to the intersecting point of the approximated curve (3) of the lower limit of the working loads and the lower limit of the threshold value.
