PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cemented carbide broach having lubricating amorphous carbon-base film exhibiting excellent wear resistance. SOLUTION: This surface-coated cemented carbide broach is constructed by forming upper and lower layers on the surface of a broach body formed of tungsten carbide-base cemented carbide by vapor evaporation. In the lubricating amorphous carbon-base film, (a) the lower layer is a hard coating layer formed of compound nitride of Ti, Al and Si satisfying the composition formula:(Ti<SB>1</SB>-(<SB>X+Y</SB>)Al<SB>X</SB>Si<SB>Y</SB>)N (wherein, X is 0.40 to 0.60 and Y is 0.05 to 0.15 by an atomic ratio) and having an average layer thickness of 1 to 3μm, and (b) the upper layer is a lubricating amorphous carbon-base film having composition containing 5 to 20 atom% of W, 0.5 to 4 atom% of Ti and 10 to 30 atom% of nitrogen and the remains being carbon and obligatory impurity in measurement using an Auger spectroscopic analyzer, showing a tissue where fine grains of crystalline titanium carbonitride-base compound are dispersed and distributed in a base of the carbon-base amorphous body in observing using a transmission type electronic microscope and having an average layer thickness of 1 to 3μm.
