摘要 A laminate tile pole piece (50) for an MRI is described as well as a method and an apparatus for manufacturing laminate tile metal pole pieces (50) for an MRI. Each laminate tile (42) has a trapezoidal or annular sector shape. The trapezoidal shape allows the tiles (42) to be attached side by side to form a multiple concentric ring pole piece (50) without using oddly shaped edge filler tiles needed to fill a circular pole piece with square tiles. The laminate tiles (42) are formed by unwinding a metal ribbon (28), guiding the ribbon (28) through an adhesive bath (33), winding the ribbon (28) on a polygonal bobbin (21), such as a rectangular bobbin, to form a coil (28A) with at least one flat side (29), removing the coil (28A) from the bobbin (21), cutting the coil (28A) into laminate bars (40) and shaping the laminate bars (40) into trapezoidal or annular sector shaped laminate tiles (42). The apparatus contains an adhesive bath (33), a polygonal shaped bobbin (21) , bobbin side plates (23A, B) for guiding the ribbon (28) onto the bobbin (21) and pressure plates (24A-D) for controlling the thickness of the coil (28A). The apparatus also contains a cutting tool (39) for cutting the coil (28) into laminate bars (40) after the coil (28A) is removed from the bobbin (21) and a water jet (41) to shape the laminate bars (40) into trapezoidal or annular sector shaped laminate tiles (42). <IMAGE> <IMAGE>
