<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system capable of carrying out priority contention access control by low power consumption operations, and to provide a wireless communication apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In the wireless communication system wherein a plurality of wireless communication apparatuses 111 to 115 constitute an adhoc network, each wireless communication apparatus sets a required minimum communication area for carrying out the priority contention access control so as not to be overlapped with communication areas set by the adjacent wireless communication apparatuses, when one wireless communication apparatus buffers transmission data, the wireless communication apparatus requests one or two or more of the other wireless communication apparatuses acting like reception destinations of the transmission data to receive the transmission data in the communication areas wherein the priority contention access control is executed, and executes wireless communication by the priority contention access control when the wireless communication apparatus arrives in the communication area wherein the priority contention access control is executed.
