PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system which can update a program in the side of a camera head without adding a special device to the camera head side, even if the the camera main body is equipped with any camera head, the camera main body which constitutes the camera system, and a camera head loaded to the camera main body to be freely exchanged. SOLUTION: An update file for updating the program for the camera head 1a is read by the main body CPU 100b from a memory card 108b. A manufacturer name, a model name, a type name, a version name, etc. are extracted, and they are compared with the manufacture name, type name, version name, etc. acquired from the camera head 1a. Only when the manufacture name and the model name coincide and the version of the update file is new, update data in the update file is transmitted to the nonvolatile memory 191a of the camera head 1a, to update the program of the camera head 1a.
