PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device that comprises a novel host material and thereby efficiently emits light and holds high intensity for an extended period of time, and to provide a display device. SOLUTION: The light-emitting device comprises a layer that contains at least one organic compound layer and is sandwiched between a pair of electrodes, and a luminous layer composed of a host compound and a guest compound, wherein the host compound is formed only by a single bond.
