摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance magnetic characteristics and electromagnetic transducing characteristics by making the thickness of an intermediate layer of a two layer perpendicular magnetic recording medium thin. SOLUTION: In the perpendicular magnetic recoding medium provided with a soft magnetic backing layer 2, an underlayer 3, a non-magnetic intermediate layer 4, and a magnetic recording layer 5 sequentially on a non-magnetic substrate 1, the underlayer contains Co, Ni and Fe, has an fcc structure and soft magnetism and preferably has 30 to 88at% Ni and 0.1 to 22 at% Fe. Si, B, Nb, N, Ta, Al, Pd, Cr or Mo may be added to the underlayer. The non-magnetic intermediate layer preferably contains at least one element of Ru, Re, Pd, Ir, Pt and Rh.
