PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire capable of enhancing the productivity and weight reduction by increasing the reinforcing cord density per ply of a belt cover layer without impairing the durability. SOLUTION: A plurality of reinforcing cords 8 to be embedded per ply of a belt cover layer 10 are arranged in a staggered manner in a section orthogonal to the reinforcing cords 8, and overlap in the thickness direction and the width direction between the directly adjacent reinforcing cords 8, 8, and an intermediate rubber layer 9 having the hardness higher than that of a coat rubber 8g of the reinforcing cord 8 is interposed between the directly adjacent reinforcing cords 8, 8 in a zigzag manner in the width direction.
