PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can surely press a recording paper consisting of a pasteboard to contact with a platen roller by a small driving source, and can also perform high-quality image printing. SOLUTION: The thermal printer 1 is equipped with a head supporting member 5 which supports a thermal head 3 to be able to turn up/down to the platen roller 2, and a guide member 15 which can press the recording paper 19 transferred between the thermal head 3 and the platen roller 2 to contact with the platen roller 2. The thermal head 3 can be turned up/down by rotating the head supporting member 5. The guide member 15 is a member other than the head supporting member 5.
