VISUAL SIZING OF PARTICLES

A rotating disc (26) extracts in a fan (30) samples from a fluidised flow (12) of particles in a container, for example a mixer (10). The extracted samples overfly contrasting area so that a camera (36) images the fan. Processing means in the form of a programmed computer analyse the images and produce size, shape, size distribution and compositional information from the sample. The sample is representative of the flow as a whole.
