The invention relates to a wristband reader/collector which is used for access control and which is independent of the actual access point. The invention consists of a module (1) comprising at least three levels (n<SUB>1</SUB>), (n<SUB>2</SUB>), (n<SUB>3</SUB>) which in turn contain at least one read device. The third level (n<SUB>3</SUB>) contains: a storage box (31) which cannot be accessed by the user and which receives wristbands (2) that cannot be re-used, and a collection tray (32) which can be accessed by the user and which receives wristbands (2) that can be re-used. According to the invention, all of the information generated takes the form of electric signals which are controlled by a PC or a controller. The invention can be used to control access to enclosed spaces.
