PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent deterioration of transmitting capacity and abnormal sounds of a transmission belt due to slipping during water filling. SOLUTION: Short fiber 10 and 10 comprising gelable polyvinyl alcohol fiber subjected to RFL treatment are embedded in rib rubber of a rib part 8 in a compressed rubber layer 6 of a V ribbed belt B which is the transmission belt. During water filling of the belt B, the short fiber 10 of a rib part 8 surface is gelated by water absorption, a water layer is not formed in a boundary face of the belt B and a pulley, the boundary face is maintained in a state without water, and deterioration of the transmitting capacity of the belt due to a water layer and abnormal sounds due to slipping are suppressed.
