PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stock, particularly, obtained by joining Ni to a stainless steel sheet in which the adhesion therebetween is improved, and to provide a battery case using the same. SOLUTION: In the multi-layer steel sheet obtained by coating at least either face in a stainless steel sheet with an Ni layer, an intermediate layer is present on the grain boundary between the stainless steel sheet and the Ni layer. The battery case is obtained by using the same. The intermediate layer is an alloy consisting mainly of the main constitutive element(s) of the stainless steel sheet and Al.
