PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel additive for an anionic surface active agent useful as a fluidizing agent for an alkyl ether sulfate composition and an anionic surface active agent composition containing the additive. SOLUTION: The additive for an anionic surface active agent comprises at least one or more compounds represented by formula (1): ZO(A<SP>1</SP>O)nSO<SB>3</SB>M<SP>1</SP>[wherein M<SP>1</SP>is an alkali metal or NH<SB>4</SB>; Z is hydrogen or SO<SB>3</SB>M<SP>2</SP>(wherein M<SP>2</SP>is an alkali metal, NH<SB>4</SB>or hydrogen); A<SP>1</SP>is a 2-4C alkylene group; n is a number of 1.0-12 on averages; and the molecular weight of -(A<SP>1</SP>O)<SB>n</SB>- is 100-550], and the anionic surface active agent composition comprises one or more compounds represented by above formula (1) as component A, one or more compounds represented by formula (2): RO(A<SP>2</SP>O)<SB>m</SB>SO<SB>3</SB>M<SP>3</SP>(wherein R is a 9-24C straight chain or branched chain alkyl group or an alkenyl group; A<SP>2</SP>is a 2-4C alkylene group; M<SP>3</SP>is hydrogen, an alkali metal or NH<SB>4</SB>; and m is a number of 0-100) as component B, and water.
