PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fragrance capable of keeping the balance of perfume composition and maintaining the aroma on the same level as just after the start of use. SOLUTION: The fragrance consists of a compact at least including perfume and a water-soluble substance which swells when absorbing water. When the compact is brought into contact with water, water is absorbed from the contact surface to form a swelling layer. The swelling layer is structured to gradually dissolve into water from the surface of the layer according to the quantity of contact with water. The thickness of the swelling layer is determined based on the inflection point or folding point in the increase in loads measured when a needle of a rheometer is advanced at a regular speed to the compact.
