PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP which has a long lifetime of a protection layer and less variation in luminance by preventing adhesion of impurities to the protection layer during the manufacturing process or after the manufacturing of the PDP. SOLUTION: This is a gas discharge display device in which a discharge gas is filled in an inner space of a sealed container, and in the sealed container, a data electrode 26 is arranged at one component interposing the inner space and a belt-shape pair of display electrodes 12 are arranged at the other component, and a protection layer 40a is formed on a surface facing the inner space at the other component. The protection layer 40a comprises a first protection region 17a and a second protection region 18a mutually facing the inner space, the first protection region 17a having a higher discharge performance than that of the second protection region 18a, the second protection region 18a having a higher impurity adsorption prevention function than that of the first protection region 17a, and it is arranged in a state of covering at least a part of the arrangement portion of the pair of display electrodes 12.
