PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC driven active matrix type liquid crystal display which prevents artifacts of stripes and reduces consumption of electric power, and to provide a method for driving the apparatus. SOLUTION: Picture signal lines Sb are connected to a picture signal source 40 by skipping by selection switches SW controlled by a column selection circuit 50, and the picture signal lines are divided, for example, into two groups of a group of odd numbered lines and a group of even numbered lines so that the connection sequence of the groups is varied in two consecutive periods. This prevents intense stripes from appearing on only the picture signal lines relating to a specific color, and improves the picture quality. A plurality of picture signal lines synchronously selected by the respective video signal selection circuits may be arranged adjacent to each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
