PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and high-performance wide angle lens which has moderate tolerance and is capable of satisfactorily correcting aberrations. SOLUTION: In the wide angle lens, a diaphragm, a first group lens and a second group lens are arranged in the order from the object side. The first group lens is a single lens or a cemented lens with positive power, having a convex face on the image side. The second group lens is a plastic meniscus lens with zero or positive power in the vicinity of the optical axis, having a concave face on the object side, wherein the positive power is intensified as proceeding to the peripheral side.
