PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize position detection in a wider range than hitherto by using a position detection element having an ordinary size. SOLUTION: The position detection element 53 is provided on a fixed member. A plurality of light sources (LED 52a-52i) are provided on a movable member. LED 52a-52i irradiate spot light to the position detection element 53. The position detection element 53 outputs a position signal related to the relative position of the movable member to the fixed member following a light receiving position of the spot light. When the spot light emitted from only one LED is detected by the position detection element, the LED is lit continuously. When the spot light emitted from two or more LED's is detected by the position detection element 53, the two or more LED's are blinked on and off. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
