PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for an epoxy resin capable of upgrading flame resistance and adhesiveness to a metal by adding to an epoxy resin composition consisting of the epoxy resin and a phenolic resin hardener for use in the semiconductor sealing field. SOLUTION: The additive for a epoxy resin comprises an aromatic sulfur compound having two or more thiol groups or mercaptomethyl groups etc. directly linking to an aromatic ring.
