The control unit has two valve modules (11,12) each having a separate housing (13), and valve seats (15,16). Valve heads cooperate with one of the two valve seats. The valve modules are connected in the region of the housings at corresponding housing sections (18), such that the respective housing sections form a gas exit for the valve module (11) and a gas entrance for the valve module (12).
