The platform has a sensor probe (4) stored in a magazine unit, and a releasing unit to remove the sensor probe from the magazine unit. The releasing unit brings out the disconnected probe on the platform. The probe has an energy source, a communications unit (12) and a sensor unit (10), and a unit to operatively connect the sensor probe with the releasing unit. A receiving unit is provided to hold the disconnected probe. - Independent claims are also included for the following: - (A) utilization of a platform for monitoring an environment - (B) a method for monitoring an environment with a self-movable platform.
