PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anionic surface active agent composition comprising an alkyl ether sulfate and a fluidizing agent of an alkylene ether glycol sulfate ester salt. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an anionic surface active agent comprising compounds represented by the formula: RO(A<SP>1</SP>O)<SB>m</SB>SO<SB>3</SB>M<SP>1</SP>(wherein R is a 9-24C straight chain or branched chain alkyl group or an alkenyl group; A<SP>1</SP>is a 2-4C alkylene group; and m is 0-100 on averages; M<SP>1</SP>is an alkali metal or NH<SB>4</SB>) and the formula: ZO(A<SP>2</SP>O)<SB>n</SB>SO<SB>3</SB>M<SP>2</SP>[wherein Z is hydrogen or SO<SB>3</SB>M<SP>3</SP>(wherein M<SP>3</SP>is an alkali metal, NH<SB>4</SB>or hydrogen); A<SP>2</SP>is a 2-4C alkylene group; n is 0.1-100 on averages; M<SP>2</SP>is an alkali metal or NH<SB>4</SB>] and water comprises (A) mixing a compound of the formula: RO(A<SP>1</SP>O)<SB>m</SB>H (wherein R, A<SP>1</SP>, and m are the same as defined above) and having a carbonyl value of≤2μmol/g with a compound of the formula: HO(A<SP>2</SP>O)<SB>n</SB>H (wherein A<SP>2</SP>and n are the same as defined above) at 0-50°C, (B) sulfating the mixture of step (A) with a sulfur trioxide gas, and (C) neutralizing the sulfated products with an alkali metal compound and ammonia water.
