METHOD FOR PRODUCING ACRYLIC TERPENE GRAFT COPOLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a copolymer, in which a base resin for composing a coating film and a tackifier are incorporated in the same molecule with their functionalities being maintained, thereby achieving the ultimate compatibility of the both resins, and which can be completely dissolved in water and can give uniform film-formability, and to provide an aqueous coating composition which comprises the copolymer and has an adhesive functionality. SOLUTION: The production method comprises passing a mixture comprising a phenol-modified terpene resin represented by formula (1) and monomers such as (meth)acrylic acid and styrene together with a chain transfer agent into a first to fourth reaction zones in this order, which give a mixture temperature of T1to T4respectively, satisfying conditions of the following expressions: reaction temperatures in the reaction zones (T1, T2, T3and T4)=50-270°C; and T12, T2≤T3and T3≤T4.
