PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing device which can recognize that an opening and closing body in closing motion reaches a fully closed position or abuts on an obstacle etc., by using a simple structure having good productivity and hardly causing a failure, a malfunction or the like. SOLUTION: When a closing-direction end of the opening and closing body 10 in the closing motion is in a predetermined range W, a threshold s is set based on a load value of a driving source 33. When the load value of the driving source 33 exceeds the threshold s after the setting of the threshold s, it is determined that the opening and closing body 10 abuts on an object on the side of the closing direction of the opening and closing body.
