PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems in stencil printing wherein air is sent between a plate cylinder and printing paper by means of an air knife fan to promote release of the printing paper from the plate cylinder, since the paper is not released sufficiently by a release pawl alone, that in the usual practice wherein the air is blown in a maximum quantity from the beginning on the assumption that a black solid part exists in some case in the tip part of an image, the same air quantity is set even when a copy has no solid part, and this causes wasteful consumption of energy and unnecessary generation of noise, and that the air quantity once set is not changed till the end of the printing, though there is an attempt to lower the maximum air quantity by checking the image quantity of the copy. SOLUTION: In the case when the copy has no solid part, an area D wherein the image quantity is the largest, an area B wherein the quantity is next thereto, etc. are recognized by a printing image recognizing part and the air in the quantity corresponding to the image quantity is blown only against the given area. Thereby the air quantity corresponding to the image quantity is set only for a position where a large air quantity is needed, and therefore the wasteful consumption of energy and also the generation of unnecessary noise are eliminated.
