PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner which enables high-speed and highly precise optical scanning by a simple constitution, can reduce image density irregularities and perform fluctuation correction of a scanning width by being applied to an image forming apparatus, and can correct a large variation of a linearity. SOLUTION: A scanning line is scanned by a plurality of light beams thereon. Heating value reduction of each of light emitting points P1, P2, P3 and P4, reduction of a temperature distribution of a light source part following the heating value reduction, and quantity of light variation restriction are carried out by superposing luminous fluxes on a medium to be scanned. The light source part consists of a face light emission laser which has a train of light emitting points with a plurality of the light emitting points P1, P2, P3 and P4 arranged in a main scanning direction, for a plurality of lines. Each of the plurality of light emitting points arranged in the main scanning direction is configured to perform binary modulation of light emission and quenching, and has a different reference emission level. Modulation of light emission and quenching is carried out at constant time intervals, and control with an arrangement order of the light emitting points and a size order of emission levels agreed is carried out.
