Molding apparatus for ceramics has a molding chamber (2) which is filled with powder (3), a compressing component and a laser (4) which sinters or melts the powder in layers to produce the molding (1). Powder is transported to the molding chamber by an annular rake (6) fitted with shearing components which also acts as the compressing component. - Independent claims are included for: - (A) a similar apparatus in which the rake is fitted with beads which compress the powder; and - (B) use of a compressing component in ceramic molding apparatus as described.
