<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system capable of adequately corresponding to the failure of a liquid exhausting valve. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system 1 is equipped with a vapor liquid separator 36 in a gas piping line 14 through which prescribed gas flows, a liquid exhausting passage 51 exhausting liquid separated from the prescribed gas with the vapor liquid separator 36 to the outside of the system, a liquid exhausting valve 52 opening and closing the liquid exhausting passage 51, and a gas detecting sensor 61 detecting the presence or no presence of the prescribed gas in the liquid exhausting passage 51 on the downstream side of the liquid exhausting valve 52.
