Novel alkyl o-carboxyphenylcarbonates of the general formula wherein R is a C 4-8 alkyl group, are prepared by reaction of salicyclic acid with a C 4-8 alkyl chloroformate. Pharmaceutical compositions having analgesic activity comprise an alkyl o-carboxyphenylcarbonate of the general formula above and apharmaceutical carrier.
