MACROPHAGE FOAMING INHIBITOR FKI-1840 AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Macrophage foaming inhibitor FKI-1840, and a process for producing the same, comprising incubating a microbe belonging to the genus Phoma which is capable of producing the substance FKI-1840 (Phoma sp. FKI-1840, FERM ABP-10150) in a culture medium, accumulating the substance FKI-1840 in the culture and collecting the substance FKI-1840 from the culture. The thus obtained substance FKI-1840 has the activity of inhibiting macrophage foaming, so that the use thereof as a preventive or therapeutic drug for atherosclerosis or diseases caused thereby, myocardial infarction, cerebral apoplexy and cerebral stroke is promising.
