摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inform a user of shape of roads at a large distance from the present position of own vehicle, and to inform the user with high accuracy of the road shape, at a short distance from the present position of own vehicle. SOLUTION: In a navigation system 1, map matching between the present position of own vehicle and map data is performed, and a road on which own vehicle is traveling is estimated as a traveling road; and when information in the traveling direction of own vehicle on the estimated traveling road is generated as road information, based on the map data and transmitted to a vehicle control ECU 18, resolution of shape point data showing a shape point is set to be variable. When the resolution of the shape point data is determined as being low, not only a spot at a short distance from the present position of own vehicle but also a spot at a long distance can be expressed by the shape point; whereas when the resolution of the shape point data is determined as being high, spots at a short distance from the present position of own vehicle can be expressed with many shape points.
